Little Shell Chippewa Included in Access To Recovery Grant

The Montana Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council has been awarded approximately $5.6 million over the next three years in no Access to Recovery funds to provide people seeking drug and alcohol treatment a greater range of choice in selecting the services most appropriate for their needs.

The Rocky Mountain Tribal Access to Recovery (RMT ATR) program is a collaboration between the MT-WY TLC, and 15 Montana and Wyoming Tribal and Urban Indian substance abuse programs. The goal of RMT ATR is to increase access through client choice from an array of clinical and recovery support services, addressing the unmet need for services for methamphetamine and other substance use disorders within the three years of the grant.

SAMHSA administers the grant program within the federal Department of Health and Human Services.

In their application, the Montana-Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council delineated a process for screening and determining appropriate services for the individual client. Clients will be assessed, and provided with a list of appropriate service providers from which to choose. Continuation of this award is subject to availability of funds and progress achieved by the awardee. Follow up of clients is a priority of this project.

The Little Shell Chippewa will be working in collaboration with the Indian Family Health Clinic in Great Falls. Some of the recovery support services that the Tribe will be able to provide are spiritual/cultural support, physical fitness and wellbeing, child care, alcohol and drug free social activities, recovery social activities, and transportation.

If you or someone you care about has a problem with drugs or alcohol, you can call 406-452-2892 for more information on this program. The Little Shell Chippewa contacts are Toni Jo Atchison and Lisa Whitford at the tribal office in Great Falls.
